Customer Profile - Emily Hakvoort and Recovery Room on the Central Coast

Passionate, talented and experienced, Emily started a successful business in 2015, and she has some advice to all the lash artists who are starting their business

Emily Hakvoort is the owner and founder of Recovery Room on the Central Coast

From a very young age Emily had a passion for beauty, make up and dressing up for dance concerts. So at the end of year 11 Emily made a big decision to start her dream career early and left school to study Beauty Therapy. It was a decision that paid off.

Emily’s first role after completing her Certificate 4 in Beauty Therapy was in a top end salon in Turramurra, Sydney. After a few years working at various businesses, Emily opened Recovery Room in Gosford.

Established in 2015, Recovery Room provides services in waxing, tinting, massage, spray tans, eyelash lift, eyelash extensions and facials. “I absolutely love what I do and working for myself. Having that total control to do things the way I like and how I want things to be.”

“I am a very ambitious, confident and professional person when it comes to doing what I love and what I'm good at!”

The Recovery Room’s most popular treatments are lash extensions and lash lift. Emily forecasts the demand for these services will continue to increase. “People like the convenience of having their eyes all done up ready to go each morning without the hassle of make up or damaging the delicate skin around the eyes!”

She breaks this down further per demographic, “Younger girls are really into the glam look and dressing up for special occasions. I do have a few clients over the age of 60 who also like the look of the classic set of lash extensions, it makes them feel younger and pretty.”

Emily attributes her business success to her attitude; “I am a friendly, easy going, professional and caring person and I make sure each person who enters my salon feels at ease and confident in getting the results they came in for.”

“I love making people look and feel amazing. To have a safe space people can walk into, have a chat, open up to me, let me know their skin concerns, or just lay there, relax and have a nap, walking out feeling better then when they walk in, is my ultimate goal and for my lovely clients to be raving to their friends and family about me is just wonderful. This is what helps my business to grow.”

“I was always into my mum's make up, she said I could apply it to myself better than she could at the age of 5!”

Emily’s advice for other lashprenuers or beauty business owners is to get started and to persevere; It won't happen until you make it happen! And never give up. Find something unique that stands out or something that no one else can offer and people will surely want to come and see you! If you have that drive, hard work ethics, are patient and kind then go for it!”
